Current events can make a stressful work environment even more stressful. We aren’t being dramatic either. Earlier this year, CareerBuilder reported that 61% of employees feel burnout at work. And when teams are allowed to return to their offices, the issues that people are experiencing all over the world as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic may exacerbate that stress even more.
Fortunately, the design of your office can make a positive impact by offering a welcoming, clean and safe environment. Here are a few suggestions that can make your workspace a little happier and a lot more stress-free.
Spice up your break room. Social distancing measures or not, having an office break room where team members can relax is crucial. Even at a distance, social interaction and back-and-forth will be something that people are starved for. Having an inspiring break room where people can sit down, catch up and have a cup of coffee is vital. Consider implementing large tables, that allow for at least six feet of space between your employees.
Comfortable workspaces. Get that traditional office furniture with hard seating outta there! Having ergonomic chairs isn’t just great in terms of comfort, it can also boost productivity. If you have team members who like to move and adjust whether they sit or stand given the time of day, having a desk that can be adjusted into a standing desk allows for versatility. In addition, comfortable workspaces reduce the risk of repetitive stress injuries and promotes well-being for employees.
Go green. If you want to improve air quality at your office, consider installing filters or plants that do well indoors. A little bit of greenery can lift spirits and help team members destress. You might even want to install a green turf wall, or tear down traditional walls and install glass partitions. This allows for natural sunlight and a feeling of openness, but without forcing employees to work closely together. In a post-pandemic world, it’s more important than ever that your team members feel safe and secure in the office.
